Our School, Our Pride: Spotlight on Building Trades
As part of our ongoing "Our School, Our Pride" series, we'll take a step back from highlighting our facilities and turn the spotlight to one of our exceptional programs at Ellsworth Community School. Today, we're taking a closer look at our Building Trades Program, with a special emphasis on our students and the vital role of Career and Technical Education (CTE) in shaping their futures.
Student-Centered Learning: At the heart of our Building Trades Program are our students. With each cut of wood and hammer of a nail, they're not just building structures; they're constructing their futures. This program isn't just about teaching technical skills; it's about fostering confidence, work ethic, and real-world problem-solving abilities.
CTE - More Than Just a Class: Career and Technical Education (CTE) is a key component of our curriculum. CTE isn't just about vocational skills; it's about preparing students for a rapidly changing workforce. By participating in CTE, our students gain an edge, acquiring both the practical skills and the academic knowledge needed for success in high-demand careers.
Honoring Our Teachers: The success of our Building Trades Program is also a testament to the dedication and expertise of our teachers. Mr. Brian Certa initiated the program, Mr. Doug Cary expanded it as an official CTE course, and Mr. Sean Rowe continues to guide our students with commitment and innovation. Each of these educators has played a pivotal role in shaping the program and our students' futures.
Real-World Impact: Our students’ work goes beyond the classroom – it touches our community. From tiny houses to essential structures like concession stands and announcers’ booths, our students’ projects serve real needs and make a tangible difference. This sense of purpose fuels their passion and commitment.
Growth Beyond High School: Many of our Building Trades alumni have transitioned seamlessly into lucrative careers in construction, leveraging the skills and experiences gained here. Our program is not just a class; it's a launchpad for future success.
A Community Collaboration: This success is a collaborative effort, supported by our partnership with Charlevoix-Emmet ISD and the unwavering backing of our community. Together, we're not just educating students; we're nurturing the next generation of skilled professionals.
Join us in the 'Our School, Our Pride' series in applauding the hard work and achievements of our Building Trades students and the invaluable guidance of Mr. Certa, Mr. Cary, and Mr. Rowe. Their dedication and skill are the true foundations of our program's success.
